I play clarinet, which is obviously a woodwind instrument. I’ve always been a very musical person and I began taking clarinet in school and now i’m pursuing it in college. It’s a great instrument. I don’t know why i like it really, I just do. I’d probably like anything I learned to play well though. Just pick one and stick with it. Take some lessons.

First off, let me tell you: I’m twenty years old, and I started piano when I was nineteen, same age as you. I’ve come quite some way since I started. I’m not saying this to brag, I’m telling you this so you’re never discouraged if people ever try to bash on you “because you started too late”.

Really, I know you didn’t ask for this advice, but please do not let others’ jealousy and constipated emotions get in the way of you learning an instrument. Okay?

Well, to answer your question: I chose to learn the piano because I originally wanted to learn a piece of music from a video game. Namely, Aerith’s Theme from Final Fantasy VII. Funny thing is, now that I can play it, I just don’t feel like learning it. Funny how that works. I would really like to learn violin, cello, flute, organ, and harpsichord, too. *Sigh* I know, I’m insane.

Hope you enjoy learning an instrument!

I started piano at age 5 but quit at age 9. Idk–i just played piano bc I lived in Korea back then and pretty much everyone played it. I never actually enjoyed classical music back then. I regret quitting piano so freaking much.
well, afterwards I started flute at age 10. I started because it was pretty and I had a child obsession with batons or anything that looked magical (hahaha!). Now as a fifteen year old and an intermediate, i’m glad I chose flute b/c I love it! i’m planning to major in music in college. :]
although i wish i played a string instrument, preferably a violin or a cello. oboe would have been nice too.

I play the bassoon, but I don’t recommend trying to pick it up. It’s very difficult to learn. The saxophone is relatively easy to play, though (I can play it, too.) Go to a music store and buy/rent an instrument- ask the worker which instrument would be best for you. Then, search your area for a private instructor willing to teach. Good luck!

I chose to play the cello and clarinet because the tone/instruments seemed to represent me most.
I suggest listening to them all and pick the one that sounds most like your true, inner self. Then, when you are able to play meaningful pieces, the music will come straight from your heart. You will touch many people.

I play the upright bass. At first I wanted to play it because it was huge and I was tiny. Now, I just love playing it, and its a very versatile instrument.

But if you want to learn an easy instrument, I would suggest the guitar. I started getting the hang of it enough to bs some stuff in like 30 minutes of holding one.

I teach classical guitar to adult beginners, some as old as 65 when they start, so firstly, don’t even begin to consider age as being an obstacle.

Out of all the string and woodwind instruments, classical guitar is very much an oddball instrument, as it doesn’t fit into an orchestra.
At the same time, it is
    a) inexpensive compared to most instruments
    b) portable
    c) can play self-contained pieces
    d) can play ensemble music too

It’s very versatile, and I’m very biased
