How long (if at all) do you warm up before a musical performance?
Sarah =D asked:
Do you always do this?
I am looking specifically for answers from musicians who play string instruments. Please tell me which instrument you play.

I play the Violin, and I don’t play solo, but with my school orchestra.
It’s better to practice, to get the mood flowing, the adrenaline, all that.
You need to feel comforatble, so about an hour or 2 before the actual performance. Tha’ts how I am, but it’s all about how well you want to perform, and how comfortable you are.
I personally play violin, and our warm up is usually about 15 minutes in a pretty noisy crowded room, each fiddling away on their own piece. Then we tune (I know, seems a little backwards), play for another 5 mintues, and hit the stage. When we have more of a competition than a three-times-a-year concert, we tend to run through a few of our problem spots once, just to get off to the right track. So really, about 20-25 minutes in total.
