Is it safe to re-string a ukulele to make it a left-handed one?

M. Ariola asked:

I just recently received a right-handed ukulele and my parents didn’t realize that I played my guitar left-handed because they’re not really into the musical instrument scene (but it’s okay, I still love them and the gift :D)

Anyways, since I got a right-handed ukulele, I can’t really play it and teaching myself the right-handed way will be a bit difficult for me.

So, will it be safe to re-string it as a left-handed uke? And how do I do it?

the top nut and bridge will need to be replaced to left hand or the strings wont fit correctly in the saddles, actually wouldn’t be that expensive if you know of a good luthier or shop

Or you could just use a small file on the nut to widen the slots, restring it and be done with it.
    Easy and free.
